Declaration of Inclusion
In the summer of 2023, the Calais Selectboard agree to sign a Declaration of Inclusion. There has been a movement in Vermont in the past few years encouraging all towns to consider how welcoming and accessible they are to all people, and Calais is eager to take part in that self-examination. In the spring of 2024, an informal Inclusion Workgroup was formed made up of volunteers from around Calais. The group is still in its early stages as of this writing in June of 2024, but their overarching goal is to ensure that this Declaration of Inclusion, posted in municipal buildings and businesses all over town, is more than just a piece of paper on the wall. Instead, it should serve as an inspiration and motivating force to perpetuate respectful conversation and ongoing actions with regard to making Calais a place where all feel safe and welcome.
