Community-owned internet: Reaching all the unreachable
The Internet You Need — Built by Your Community
March 2025
High speed Internet service is now available in 69% of locations in Calais-See Map!
As a community-owned, non-profit organization, NEK Broadband/CVFiber (NEKCV) believe that irrespective of location, everyone should have fair and equal access to fast, reliable, world-class Internet. We set the bar high — and we aim to meet it.
In 2024, CVFiber merged with NEK Broadband to take advantage of additional funding opportunities and to consolidate planning, management and construction activities. A larger customer base will also reduce the district’s overhead costs and help us become more sustainable.
In 2024, there was limited construction in Calais. However, NEK Broadband/CVFiber has secured grant and loan money to keep construction going this year. Our 2025 construction plan includes an additional 75 locations in Calais (see Map). Your Communication Union District has also submitted a “pre-proposal” to the Vermont Community Broadband Board for a $125 million dollar grant coming from the “Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act” to reach all the remaining locations in our 71-town district. This money may be in limbo as a result of recent change in administration.
