CVFiber Calais
Community-owned internet: Reaching all the unreachable
Connectivity is Only the Beginning
Update April 2024
High speed internet service is now available in 73% of locations in Calais - see map!
In 2018, the Town of Calais voted to become part of CVFiber, a 20-town Communications Union District CUD). As a municipal entity, our mission is to get high speed, fiber internet to all its under-served locations.
After five years, this challenging work has paid off. There are 71 miles of fiber distribution lines servicing 660 (73%) locations in Calais. The amazing news is that 46% of those locations have signed up for service! CVFiber will be applying for federal broadband infrastructure funds in late 2024 to finish the work. We anticipate funding and construction might happen in 2025 to complete the remaining portions of the town.
Now that CVFiber is operational, it is critical that folks subscribe. If you have not signed up for a service package in the areas currently open, please do so if possible. It is very important that we achieve enough subscriptions to ensure financial viability. So far 46% of the folks eligible for service have subscribed. Please consider subscribing when your cable contracts expire. We have also heard that Comcast and Consolidated have let people out of their contracts without penalty.
Our website at https://cvfiber.net provides detailed information on signing up, package types and prices, and a comprehensive frequently asked questions section. This link shows those locations available for service now. Map Link Installations are continuing for those who have signed up. If you have a specific question on installation you can email at cutomerservice@cvfiber.net or call 802.583.4628.
